As someone who handles car accident claims on the Oregon Coast, the blog watches closely safety reports on the winding Highway 101 that connects the scenic Oregon Coastal towns. All too often, the blog sees car crashes on the otherwise beautiful stretch of highway. The accident injuries range from the relatively minor (whiplash, shoulder injuries, etc.) to the more serious (broken bones, accidents requiring surgery, head injury or wrongful death).
A car crash Saturday afternoon in the Oregon Coast town of Wheeler, Oregon was a tragic as it gets. As always, the names of the victims will be withheld for privacy reasons.
Oregonlive.com is reporting that two passengers of a Dodge Caravan driven by a 49-year-old woman were killed when the van's driver lost control of the van on a curve and spun into the oncoming lane of traffic. The van then slammed into a pickup truck. The violent Oregon Coast car accident reportedely totaled both vehicles.
Two passengers in the Dodge Caravan died in the accident, an 8-year-old boy and a 71-year-old man. Both the deceased passengers were from the Dalles, Oregon. Two other passengers in the van suffered injuries in the Wheeler auto wreck. The worst injuries of the survivors were apparently suffered by a 16-year-old girl who was transfered to Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland for treatment of what were characterized as serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup and his passenger were also treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
As of now, there appear to have been no citations issued and no determinations of fault. More on this tragic accident as details become available.
